If it did, there would only be one diet, right?
Typically, when we hear the word “diet” we conjure up images of a long list of foods we have to avoid. That is because this is how most “diets” work. According to the dictionary, there are two definitions of diet:
1. The kinds of foods a person, animal or community habitually eats (for example, vegetarian, vegan or paleo diet);
2. A special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons.
When I refer to the word “diet” I mean it in the “abundance of foods enjoyed because they support an individual’s health” context, not a restrictive “you can’t eat that” diet or “you can only eat 1200 calories a day” diet.
Restrictive strategies set us up for failure in the long run. As a society, we have been falling victim to the diet mentality for way too long and then blaming ourselves because it does not work.
It is not your fault!
ANY restrictive diet will have a yo-yo effect. When you deprive your body of the nutrition it needs, it keeps track. Once you go off the so-called diet, your body knows what it was lacking and your willpower is just no match. Again, it is NOT your fault. This is why diets do not work long-term, not to mention the damage that can be done to your health with overly restrictive diets. If only we knew this years ago!
Dieting truly does not work…on SO many levels! Clean eating is the way to go!!
Over the years, I have heard people mumble that clean eating is just another FAD!! I couldn't possibly disagree more. Clean eating is absolutely here to stay! Clean eating is a phrase that has become very popular over the past five years.
Clean eating is a way of life- it is NOT a diet!
When I talk about eating for nutrition and 'good health', I mean good, real, whole food. By avoiding foods that are processed or refined, which may contain nitrates, chemicals, and pesticides, you reduce your exposure to free radicals that can harm your system and cause disease.
I'm talking about single-ingredient foods that have grown in the earth and haven't been manufactured or processed in a factory. By choosing ingredients in their most natural, whole state, including clean animal-or plant-based proteins, and preparing them in healthy fats, you reduce inflammation in your body, balance your pH levels, and improve vitality.
Avoid fast food and processed items as much as possible. That’s because most of these products are devoid of real nutrition. They are packed with sugars, artificial sweeteners, preservatives and other man-made chemicals. Who actually feels good eating that stuff anyway?
Not me. They make me feel sluggish and they lower my health. Your body recognizes all the impurities that have found their way into our soil, food, and water as toxic. When your body and liver are overloaded, fat cells are created and store these toxins.
Clean eating is designed to remove toxins, assist your body in burning fat like a machine, reduce inflammation, and get nourished on all levels as your body becomes toxic free.
When eating clean, you will cleanse your body of everyday toxins, sugars, refined flours, processed foods, and common allergens that find their way into your body on a daily basis. Once you begin to eliminate these inflammatory, difficult-to-digest foods, your digestive system is given a chance to rest. You will feel more alive and rejuvenated and you will feel rebooted!
There’s no deprivation and no calories counting. When a person eats clean, they eat tons of delicious food. This is not a diet. You will enjoy gorgeous, fresh, whole foods and avoid processed and packaged foods, factory farmed animal products and commercial dairy. In other words, your meals will be full of clean proteins (organic, grass-fed meat, mercury free fish, free-range organic eggs), nuts, organic butter, low glycemic beans, healthy fats, and low-carb, high-fiber veggies.
Clean eating allows you to take time to pause and care for yourself. Feeling your feelings rather than feeding them… listening to what your body has to say and supporting areas where you need some help.
Society, on the whole, is getting fatter, sicker and unhappier, and poor nutrition is a key factor. Overeating, along with the consumption of over-processed foods, is ruining people’s health.
This is why eating single-ingredient foods is such an important habit to focus on.
Making the correct food choices is a must if you want to support your goals. All of these reasons are how I know that clean eating is not a FAD and it's sticking around for the long haul!
